About this compound

Compound Information

About Oxytocin

Oxytocin is a 9-amino-acid cyclic neuropeptide synthesized in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary. It is one of the most-studied peptides in neuroscience and behavioral research, with a documented role in receptor signaling at the OTR (oxytocin receptor) and modulation of social-bonding, lactation, and uterine-contraction pathways in published literature.

Reported Activity

In published research models, oxytocin has been investigated for its activity at the OTR (Gq-coupled GPCR) and partial agonism at vasopressin receptors V1a and V1b. Common research areas include:

  • Central-nervous-system signaling and social-cognition models
  • Pair-bonding and trust-behavior studies
  • Mother–infant attachment models
  • Stress-response and anxiolytic-pathway research
  • Smooth-muscle contraction studies

Reconstitution

Reconstitute the lyophilized powder with bacteriostatic water (BAC water) or sterile saline. A common research-grade dilution is 1 mg in 1 mL, yielding 1 mg/mL stock. After reconstitution, store at 2–8 °C protected from light and use within 30 days. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles.

Storage & Handling

Lyophilized powder: store at -20 °C, desiccated, away from direct light. Stable for 24 months from the lot analysis date when stored as recommended. Allow vials to equilibrate to room temperature before opening to avoid moisture condensation on the seal.

Quality & Identity

Each batch ships with a third-party Certificate of Analysis verifying:

  • Purity ≥ 99% by HPLC
  • Identity confirmed by mass spectrometry
  • Endotoxin and bioburden screening
  • Lot-specific potency assay

For laboratory research use only. Not for human or animal consumption. Not a drug, food, or cosmetic.
